North Korea has launched a ballistic missile that could reach the United States, according to the Japanese Ministry of Defense. According to the agency, the rocket spent a little more than an hour in the air and fell into the water in the economic zone of Japan.
At the same time, if it were not aimed at the sky, then in theory it could well cover a distance of 14 thousand kilometers. And this, as noted by the Japanese military, is enough to fly to the continental United States.
The US administration, in turn , said that the DPRK authorities should stop “destabilizing actions” and move on to serious consultations on the country’s nuclear and missile program.

– There have been no tests so bright, so brazen, in my opinion, since the time of Donald Trump. The United States, I think, first of all will try to agree on something with China, because any additional sanctions are possible only with Chinese consent in the UN Security Council. The Japanese are likely to develop their own self-defense forces further, South Korea is likely to lobby in Washington for the idea that it also has its own nuclear weapons. But I do not see big changes, because I think that the United States will not agree to nuclear armament of the south for reasons of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. China, in the context of the current Sino-American confrontation, will object to additional sanctions in the Security Council, that is, most likely, paradoxically, this launch will not have any special consequences.
– Under what conditions can this story with provocative rocket launches end?
“It can only end if there is a change of power in North Korea. Until then, North Korea will most likely continue to develop its nuclear missile program, because from the point of view of the North Korean leadership, it is very important to send a signal to the White House. The signal is very simple: if you suddenly try to attack us, then we will kill you, not you Americans, but you personally, Mr. President.
Does the US have a way to put pressure on North Korea?
– In fact, no one has them, with the exception, perhaps, of China – but even that is still the grandmother said in two. The only way that Donald Trump used was to threaten military action. Apparently, then the North Koreans were somewhat frightened. But even then, this only allowed America to gain time, the North Koreans suspended tests for a while, but, naturally, they did not hand over nuclear weapons.
North Korea declared itself a nuclear power in September last year, the country has secured this status by law. But then experts in a conversation with Business FM noted that this was a propaganda move, the world had known for so long that the DPRK had nuclear warheads.
At the end of last year, North Korea launched about 70 ballistic missiles as part of tests . This time it happened after the North Korean Foreign Ministry promised a “strong response” if Washington and Seoul decide to conduct joint exercises on the Korean Peninsula.
