President Joe Biden on Monday declared that the Russian mercenary uprising against the Kremlin was part of a struggle in the Russian system and that the United States and its allies were not involved.
Biden has given a very careful assessment of events in Russia to avoid tensions with the nuclear-armed Moscow government, as he has strongly supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
“We are not involved in the Russian uprising, we have nothing to do with it,” Biden said in his first comment on the Wagner merger over the weekend.
Biden’s message, which states that he was not involved, was sent directly to the Russian people through various diplomatic channels.
On Saturday, June 24, Wagner mercenaries launched a major uprising under the command of President Evgeny Prigozhin. The army captured the Russian military’s southern district headquarters in Rostov-on-Don and headed for Moscow.
The uprising then stopped as Prigozhin announced that his troops would return to their camps after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
