It’s no surprise that the housing market in Central Ohio has become quite competitive.

If you’re on the hunt for the perfect place to call home, you might be surprised to learn that the most sought-after ZIP code in the entire country isn’t nestled in a bustling coastal city. Instead, it’s right here in Gahanna.

According to a comprehensive analysis conducted by Realtor.com, Gahanna claims the crown as the most in-demand area in the entire country. This distinction is based on a combination of factors, including the speed at which homes were snatched off the market and the median number of times listings were viewed on Realtor.com, compared to the overall U.S. median number of views.

Picture this: lush parks, a convenient commute to downtown Columbus, and spacious homes that won’t break the bank. That’s Gahanna for you. With a median home price of $389,000 Gahanna presents a semi-affordable opportunity for homebuyers.

And it’s not just about homes; it’s about the lifestyle. Gahanna residents enjoy a relatively affluent environment, with a median household income of $95,547, slightly above the national median of $88,590, according to U.S. Census data.

As you look through the list of the top 15 ZIP codes, it becomes evident that buyer demand is concentrated in the Midwest and Northeast regions, especially in neighborhoods close to major cities. While terms like “affordable” can vary significantly from one place to another, places like Ridgewood, New Jersey, and Andover, Massachusetts, offer homes that sell for well above the national median but provide more spaciousness and value compared to their urban counterparts.

Interestingly, many prospective buyers for these coveted ZIP codes are city dwellers looking for more budget-friendly options closer to home. In fact, Gahanna saw the largest share of out-of-metro viewership relative to the other Midwest metros, garnering 13.1% of its viewership from the NYC area in the second quarter of 2023 while all the other midwest metros saw more within-metro and within-region viewership.

In the realm of demand, homes in these highly desirable ZIP codes don’t stay on the market for long. In fact, six of these locales typically see homes sold in under 20 days—far below the national average of 44 days, as per a recent real estate report by Realtor.com.

In addition to Gahanna, one other Ohio city made the list: Dayton. According to the data, Dayton had an median house price of $287K and homes averaged 23 days on the market.

The data underpinning these rankings draws from Realtor.com’s comprehensive listing records between January 2023 and June 2023, and it’s worth noting that only one ZIP code per metropolitan area is represented in the list.
