Construction is set to commence at the Belize Defense Force’s Forward Operating Base on the Sarstoon River. Love News understands that construction material has begun to be shipped to the site, where Prime Minister John Briceno visited some three weeks ago. Briceno had pledged to fast-track the renovations to ensure soldiers are stationed in the area. Leader of the Belize Territorial Volunteers, Wil Maheia, had met with the Prime Minister in recent weeks, and is now commending him for keeping his word to expedite the works at the base.
Will Maheia, Leader, Belize Territorial Volunteers: “Right behind me you will see the barge a barge that is heading to Sarstoon and reports telling us that that barge is going there bringing materials to fix the forward operating base. So I want to take this opportunity to applaud the Prime Minister who was here not too long ago and who really is living up to his word. He promised that there would be construction pretty soon at the Sarstoon and as you can see behind me that there is a barge heading to the Sarstoon right now.”
Vejea Alvarez, Love News: How has the working relationship maybe improved since that visit from the PM between the BTV and the BDF ?
Will Maheia, Leader, Belize Territorial Volunteers: “Well you know the PM is somebody that I think when he works he doesn’t focus on political parties he focuses on Belize. So I think that the PM is a really good person to work with in terms of getting things done for Belize. He came down here, we met, he went to the Sarstoon, he promised that things would happen and it hasn’t even been a month and things are happening.”
