Two houses on the south side of Belize City were destroyed by fire this morning. The fire broke out in a densely populated area of Arlington Drive just after seven-thirty. The fire began at the home of Marlon Usher and spread to the structure next to it. Usher, who works in construction, had already left for work. Many area residents told Love News they are convinced that Usher’s house was set ablaze, and Brenda Usher, Marlon’s mother, says she knows the identity of the suspected arsonist. She said that she hopes authorities can act quickly to address the situation because the suspected arsonist has been having repeated conflicts with her son over the past few weeks.
Brenda Usher, Mother of Fire Victim: “When I woke up this morning I heard a lot of noise so I looked through the window and then I realized that everybody was hollering Fang burned down. From before last week I was noticing that he was going funny because I had to call the police for him because he was going on bad one day and I had to call the police to slow him down and like he stayed with a hatred because they live close and he would stay violate my son you know ? But then my son doesn’t stay at home he goes to work as morning he goes to work. He does construction.”
Reporter: There were two houses in the yard ?
Brenda Usher, Mother of Fire Victim: “No that is a separate yard.”
Reporter: They were just close to each other ?
Brenda Usher, Mother of Fire Victim: “Yeah they’re close. It hurts me so much I don’t even know what to say or do and I don’t want any problems. I don’t want any problems because it’s not one child I have, it’s not one son I have that’s why I don’t want any problems. I just want the police to pick him up and make him say what he did and I’d like to ask the public if they could help Marlon so they can help him to try build back his spot.”
Usher said that anyone wishing to assist her son can call 606-4295. Residents tell Love News that the second house was unoccupied, but that someone had been using it for storage.
