TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — GoFundMe says their hearts go out to everyone impacted by the wildfires in Maui. They have been working around the clock to ensure the community receives the support they need.
To make it easier for people who want to help those affected, GoFundMe has launched a centralized hub housing all verified fundraisers related to the Maui wildfires.
The Trust & Safety team will continue to update the hub with more fundraisers as they are verified.
They have provided data on help delivered through GoFundMe for Maui wildfire relief:
The following fundraisers were created by Oklahoma residents to help their loved ones in Hawaii and can be found online on the hub.
Lahaina Fire Relief for Willy Shim:
- Kaui Eiklor of Edmond set up a GoFundMe for her uncle, Wilfred Shim after his home was destroyed in the Maui wildfires. “My uncle Wilfred Shim was just found after almost 48 hours of missing after he fled from his house to survive the raging fires in Lahaina, Maui,” the fundraiser organizer shared.
Rodeo Relief Maui:
- Sarah Neal of Muldrow, OK set up a fundraiser to benefit the Hawaii Community Foundation. The CN Productions crew is also getting ready to head to Maui from Aug. 18 to Aug. 23. “After speaking with our hosts and dear friends at Kaonoulu Ranch, they believe this event is now more important than ever as the rodeo community of the islands come together to fellowship and compete in celebration of the western way of life,” the fundraiser reads.
Maui fire donation:
- “One of our wrestling families at Edmond North moved from Lahaina, where the fires were. This summer the Williams family hosted high school wrestlers from Lahaina and our boys became friends with them as well. I am asking for help for these families that may have lost everything as well as the Williams family to get back to see the devastated area the fire caused and maybe destroyed the home they left behind,” fundraiser organizer Angie Schneider said.
