British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and US Vice President Kamla Harris have condemned countries that support Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts in Ukraine.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and US Vice President Kamla Harris on Saturday condemned countries that support Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts in Ukraine, calling the war a “global war”.
The British Prime Minister’s office said, in a statement posted on the government’s website, that Sunak met the US Vice President during the Munich Security Conference.
He added that the two sides discussed how to accelerate international action on Ukraine, to allow it to win the war and secure a just and lasting peace.
He added that they agreed on “the importance of thinking beyond Kyiv’s immediate needs about how the international community can ensure that Ukraine does not face the same threats again.”
They also agreed, according to the statement, that “(Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s war in Ukraine is a global war, both in terms of its impact on food and energy security and in terms of its implications for internationally accepted norms such as sovereignty.”
The statement said Sunak and Harris “condemned countries that supported Putin’s efforts both politically and militarily.”
They also talked about the “Ocos” alliance, which also includes Australia, an alliance that aims to make the Indo-Pacific region more stable and secure.
It should be noted that the countries of Australia, the United States and Britain announced in 2021 a tripartite alliance under the name “Okus”, which is seen as another attempt to confront China’s growing economic and military influence in the region.
The agreement raised the ire of several countries, led by China, Russia and North Korea.
China warned that the alliance risked “severe damage to regional peace and intensification of the arms race”.
