Get ready for some seriously cold temperatures over the next few days as an Arctic front dives south and brings wind chills and overnight lows into the teens and single digits. A powerful upper-level trough has allowed cold arctic air to come crashing south, and folks in spots like Billings, MT will feel high temperatures Thursday that are 30° below average!
That cold air then spills East, following the front as temperatures drop into the teens and single digits from the Canadian border with the Dakotas into the Central Plains by the end of the weekend.
By Monday the cold air will be all the way to Texas and Mexico with wind chills sub-freezing. This will be the coldest air of the season and just in time for Halloween – make sure you plan for coats to be incorporated into those costumes Tuesday night if you live anywhere in the Central and Western U.S.!
The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting with high confidence of below average temperatures as we wrap up the month of October and move into November meaning this air is here to stay.
